Description
Queen Victoria was the queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837-1901. She was the second longest reign of any other British monarch in history.
Queen Victoria was the only child of Victoria Saxe-Saalfield-Coburg and Edward, the duke of Kent. She was the queen of Great Britain for 63 years. Till date, she is the second longest ruling British monarch after Queen Elizabeth II.
Victoria's reign saw advances in the industry, great cultural expansion, communications, and science; and the building of London Underground and railways. She died in England in 1901.
The British Parliamentary politics went through a major transition during the Queen Victoria's reign, which includes splitting of the Tory Party and forming of the Liberal and Conservative parties. This started a succession of opposing administrations.
Victoria played an important role of a mediator between arriving and departing prime ministers. She was particularly very fond of Benjamin Disraeli, a Conservative Prime Minister, who helped to restore the public opinion following Queen Victoria's long seclusion due to the death of her beloved, Albert.
The book is a detailed account of this longest ruling monarch in British history also known as the Victorian era.
